Best of 2015 - What Went On

2015 is over, and it's now time to reflect on what has been a busy and reflective year! In the celebrity world, the fashion world, and the beauty world, things became big and things got our attention. From Caitlyn Jenner, to Cream Contouring, 2015 sparked new interests, Twitter Trends, and things to blog about!

Kylie Jenner & her assets

Kylie Jenner and her Instagram have definitely been the subject of magazine articles, Twitter Trends, and everyday conversations between friends. The constant questioning of her lips was finally laid to rest earlier this year, and it was revealed that she had temporary lip fillers as it was an 'insecurity' of hers. Fair enough, right? Yeah, she's only 18, and no 18 year old needs fillers of any type of cosmetic surgery, but if you really have a problem with yourself and your insecurities are overwhelming yourself, all I can say is do what makes you happy. I'm not condoning any cosmetic surgery as I feel it's unnecessary, especially at a young age, but at the end of the day it comes down to feeling comfortable in your skin and being happy with yourself. This year, however, her lips weren't only the talking point. Many of Kylie Jenner's posts showed her in bikinis and figure-hugging dresses which revealed a beautiful hour-glass shaped figure. This, also, was questioned by fans and the media, wondering if she'd followed in her sister's footsteps and had breast augmentation or butt implants, or simply had some work-out tips up her sleeve. Whatever it is, she's been looking fab this year in many knockout outfits from labels such as Balmain and Alexander Wang. Last, but not least, the talking point of Kylie Jenner is her hair. Kylie has pulled a number of different hair styles out of the bag this year, from blue at Coachella 2015, to blonde at her 18th birthday party, and to two shades of green: one at the Sugar Factory, and she other at her Lip Kit launch. Whatever colour it has been, she has completely pulled it off! I, personally, loved the ash blonde and the mint green.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2015

This years Victoria's Secret Fashion Show included the likes of Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Taylor Hill on the runway, and every single Angel looked stunning as they put on another show-stopping performance for the annual extravaganza. The show included guest appearances Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding and The Weeknd who performed alongside the Angels on the runway. Watching Kendall Jenner at the show was her mum, Kris Jenner, and brother-in-law Kanye West, who were both filming the show. The Angels who graced the runway included Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge, Alessandra Ambrosia, Josephine Skriver, Kate Grigorieva and many more models. Gigi Hadid graced the catwalk in a pair of large turquoise wings for the exotic butterfly segment of the show, whilst Lily Aldridge was chosen to wear the $2million Fantasy Bra. The 2015 show was definitely one to watch!

Caitlyn Jenner

The Kardashian/Jenner clan constantly sparked controversy, questions and headlines in 2015, but the biggest of all was Caitlyn Jenner. Formerly Bruce Jenner, Caitlyn made her debut in the July issue of Vanity Fair, and was the number one trend on Twitter. Whilst some mocked and laughed about her transition, others showed their upmost support and love for the former Gold Medalist. Some argue that her transition is far from 'brave' and she doesn't deserve the countless awards she has received since the transition and her interview with Diane Sawyer in April, however I, and many others, believe that she is as brave as anyone else is or can be. To be in the public eye and to be brave enough to show the world your true self is brave. Caitlyn also began her own TV documentary series in July called I Am Cait, where she showed her support for the Trans community as well as her journey into becoming Caitlyn. Before her transition, many sat down to watch Keeping Up With The Kardashian's 2-part episode where Caitlyn, formerly Bruce, shared her transitioning with her family, and shared the difficulties she has experienced in being honest with her daughters, and especially her mother. Caitlyn went on to receive many awards such as Social Media Queen at the Teen Choice Awards, one of Glamour Magazine's 25 Glamour Women of the Year, and the Arthur Ashe Courage Award during the 2015 ESPY Awards in July which was her first award as Caitlyn. 2015 was definitely the year for Caitlyn Jenner!

BIEBER!

I think I speak on behalf of many others when I say I've actually become a fan of Justin Bieber. I've never hated the guy, I've just never been a fan until his album Purpose came out in 2015 and he produced some knockout songs which I love! As well as his album, I've grown to fancy the pants off of him! I still questioned his personality and wondered if he is as dull as dishwater, so I decided to watch James Corden's Carpool with Justin Bieber (the second one) and I loved it! Not only was I laughing at James Corden, but I was laughing at Justin Bieber because I actually found him funny! And it's safe to say that I'm definitely a Bieber fan as of 2015.

Adele

I've always been a fan of Adele, so when her new album 25 was released in 2015, I was ecstatic! I couldn't wait to hear the first song and I couldn't wait for the whole album to come out! Adele never disappoints with her incredible vocals in her songs, and her performance on The X-Factor proved, once again, how incredible she really is. Not only is Adele incredibly talented, but she is so down to earth, real, and just such a beautiful individual. I don't usually idolise celebrities, but Adele is definitely a great role model for teenage girls and young women. The world had to wait 4 years before the next album, but it was worth the wait after hearing 'Hello' for the first time in October which was Number One for weeks!

Fashion Collabs - Balmain x H&M

2015 saw the launch of Balmain and H&M on the 5th of November. The collection almost immediately sold out online, and shoppers lined up for days in advance to try and nab something from the collection. Balmain's creative director, Olivier Rousteing, kept his signature designs intact for the affordable retailer, including large exaggerated shoulders and elaborate embellishments that you'd see on the runway.

I sadly didn't manage to get anything from the Balmain x H&M collection, however I lusted over many pieces including their large statement belts, embellished dresses such as the top right hand corner, bottom left hand corner, and the 3rd beauty in the top row. I also fell in love with the black and silver embellished blazer in the top left hand corner, as it would have been something I'd wear all the time. Rousteing ensured that the collection produced typical Balmain vibes, and he succeeded in doing so.

Boots - Thigh-highs

This Autumn and Winter we saw the growing love for thigh-highs with or without a heel. The common look was thigh-highs with shirt dresses and over-sized jumpers, as we saw with Kourtney Kardashian, and the trend became big. Thigh-highs can be worn both casually with a pair of jeans, or on a night out with your favourite bandage dress. They're not the easiest trend to wear as you can end up looking like a hooker, but style them right and you can slay the thigh-high trend. Common materials were suede and faux-suede in black, grey, or camel which are three of my favourite colours to wear and were also popular colours in 2015. We saw these boots being slayed by the likes of Kourtney Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Lauren Pope, Georgia Kousoulou and Taylor Swift. My favourite place to shop for thigh-highs is Public Desire, or Asos.

Lace-ups

Lace-up heels, flats, and boots became an essential in almost everybody's shoe collection this year. From bright bold colours, to the neutrals, lace-ups were pretty much everywhere. It almost wasn't even an option to wear a pair of lace ups on a night out: it became something you just had to wear on your feet. They look beautiful during the summer evenings and the dark winter nights out, even after the longevity of trying to tie them up neatly (my biggest problem).

Cream Contouring

Whilst contouring like Kim K became a must in the art of makeup, cream contouring became the new way to contour like a pro in 2015. We wanted to use makeup to create an illusion with shadows which would transform our faces into something new. With sculpted cheekbones and newly shaped noses, contouring became part of the every day makeup routine. With the release of Anastasia Beverly Hills' Cream Contour Kit, more brands took to creating cream contour kits to keep this trend going and cream contouring became the even newer way to contour! Whilst contour diagrams make it seem as though cream contouring will take you forever to do, the creaminess of the formulas make contouring look so seamless on the skin and so natural. The typical Instagram post would include a contour kit by ABH, and the new cream contour kit became a new feature in the typical Instagram post in 2015, obviously along with Starbucks cups, fluffy carpets, marble patterns, and Apple products.

Watches - Daniel Wellington & Olivia Burton

2014 saw the Michael Kors watch as the most common thing on Instagram, but in 2015 it happened to be watches by Olivia Burton and Daniel Wellington. A lot more simple and classic, Olivia Burton and Daniel Wellington watches proved that a watch doesn't have to include 72 diamantes and a big gold chain (unless you like that sort of thing, each to their own!). Olivia Burton's pretty and simple watches are beautifully feminine and soft, with soft pale colours and floral patterns, whilst Daniel Wellington's classic watches with striped straps are simplistic but include that extra colour. Both timeless and beautiful, these watches created the perfect Instagram picture in 2015!

Trench & Boyfriend Coats

Trench coats and boyfriend jackets were one of my favourite fashion trends from AW15 and were seen pretty much everywhere! During my trips to London I'd repeatedly see other girls on the underground and strutting down Kensington in a trench or a boyfriend jacket and I love them. Not only do they keep you so warm, but they look so classy and chic. The most common colours were grey and camel, my faves, which were in trend in 2015. I'll continue to wear mine until the cold goes away, but for now I live in both my boyfriend jacket and my trench styled coat! I love how they can make a casual outfit look so classy, and a classy look can be made so casual depending on how you style a boyfriend or a trench.

So that concludes some of what went on in 2015, from beauty, to celebs, to fashion. My next post will be my goals for 2015 and my thoughts on New Years Resolutions. Hope you enjoyed this post, and I hope 2016 brings you lots of happiness. Happy New Year!
